Joanie Schirm, born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, is a writer of fiction and nonfiction for young adults. She teaches creative writing at Stanford University and directs the Stanford Writers Program. She is the author of "A Different Light" as well as two other books, "the Reluctant Life" and "the Reluctant Life 2: Diving Deep."
